Summer means tons of outdoor fun (and escaping indoors from the heat when necessary)! Going to the beach is a favorite for our family, an event we look forward to all year- though planning for a beach day takes just about as long. After a number of visits, however, we’ve got packing for a beach day down to a science. Here’s what you need for a perfect day in the sand and sun minus the stress and headaches!

Beach tent

If your plan is to spend more than 2 hours at the beach, you should definitely consider SOME kind of shade from the sun (as well as sun block, of course). The Pacific Breeze Easy Up Beach Tent comes highly recommended and will be a welcome break from the sun’s powerful rays. We love umbrellas, too – just make sure you have one big enough to cover the whole family!

Blue Lizard Sun Screen

And speaking of sun protection, we love Blue Lizard Sun Screen. This mineral-based broad spectrum sunscreen hails from Australia and is dermatologist recommended (and prevents my kids from getting burned). Whatever you use, don’t forget to reapply throughout the day.

Rolling Cooler

Not all coolers are built alike, but we love this one from Wayfair — its sturdy wheels can maneuver through the highest sand dunes. AND it comes with 2 little chairs and pop up counter space – perfect for kiddos!

Baby powder

Did you know that baby powder is an excellent way to remove sand from sticky arms and legs? This not-so-secret secret has saved many a beach day, especially if you have a long drive home!

Hydration

When packing your snacks for the day, keep in mind foods that will keep you hydrated, as well as bringing along plenty of fluids. Among the best options: cucumbers, celery, watermelon, strawberries and baby carrots. Yum!
